On Friday November 17th, the Abbitt Realty family delivered donations from their Newport News and Hampton offices to Coliseum Marketplace for the 21st annual Mayflower Marathon Food Drive. This was the first year that Abbitt Realty has participated in the event, helping bring joy to the families and individuals in our community that are struggling with hunger every day.
Upon our arrival, Peninsula Food Bank volunteers greeted our team with a warm welcome and helping hand to unload deliveries. “What a fun way to help! At Abbitt Realty we did an office donation challenge and had some laughs… but then we met the real heroes who staff and volunteer at the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank. Michele Benson and her team work 365 days a year feeding those who are less fortunate, so we were happy to do a little bit to help.” said Perry Pilgrim, principal broker at Abbitt Realty (pictured left).
Established in 1986, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has been the leading hunger relief organization across the Greater Peninsula serving the 1 in 7 Virginians who struggle with hunger in the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg, and the Counties of Gloucester, James City, Mathews, Surry and York. In order to sustain the ever-growing need, the Foodbank partners with almost 170 member agencies made up of faith based organizations, food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and community centers across our service area for people to turn to in times of need, and together, they have provided over 147 million meals. Hunger relief is truly a collaborative effort and they are making a difference in many lives.
Abbitt Realty and The Abbitt Family Foundation are dedicated to continuously supporting and giving back to the community that we serve, and this holiday season we ask that you too keep those less fortunate in mind. We are proud to announce that we will be matching the estimated value of our food donation with a monetary donation made in honor of Giving Day next Tuesday.
