On Tuesday November 28th, members of the Abbitt team attended the Habitat for Humanity ribbon-cutting ceremony for a house that they helped to build back in May of this year. Speakers at the ceremony included Cathy McQuade, President of the Habitat for Humanity Board, as well as several City of Hampton representatives lead by Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit homebuilding organization fueled by generous and hard-working volunteers looking to help their community. The organization offers affordable monthly mortgages to new homeowners, which in turn are then recycled to build more Habitat homes. Coinciding with the build was Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week, which was embraced by our female Abbitt volunteers. The week is meant to spotlight the homeownership challenged faced by women.
“I’ve been with Abbitt for 10 years now, and I have always been excited to participate in community activities representing the company. We always have a good time, whether it’s building some walls for the new Habitat Home on Union St. with my Abbitt sisters, or playing in the Habitat Golf Tournament” said Jan McPheter, one of the many great realtors from our Hampton office. Abbitt Realtor Dawna Priest was also happy to lend a hand at the May 9th build. “Abbitt women built the walls to the Ottey’s new home and to see the smiles on their faces during the ribbon cutting ceremony will be a treasured memory” said Priest.
We are proud of our Hampton Abbitt Realty volunteers (listed below) and their efforts in helping the Ottey family make their dream of homeownership a reality! If you would like to join Abbitt in continuing to give back to our community, we are accepting donations for Toys for Tots at all of our office locations until December 13th.
