In 1946, America was home from the war, and Virginia’s Peninsula embarked on a half-century of unprecedented growth and prosperity. Mereidith “Monk” Abbitt opened the first Abbitt Realty office in Newport News, determined to meet the needs of families search for a new home in historic Virginia. Then as now, the Abbitt goal was to do business guided by core values of integrity, honesty and knowledge.
Monk Abbitt’s son, Richard, grew the company from a small family enterprise to three seperate divisions: Abbitt Insurance, Abbitt Management and Abbitt Realty. Today his vision is carried forward by President Charles W. Wornom, and by Abbitt family members, including his wife Carolyn, and sons, Matthew and Stephen.
After more than 65 years, Abbitt Realty Company, Inc., remains on of the foremost independent, family-led real estate firms on the Virginia Peninsula and its adjoining communities, continuing a tradition of caring service and adaptation to the changing needs of the families it serves.
