Meet Libery – Colonial Williamsburg’s New Mascot!

Oh what fun! The following article, courtesy of Colonial Williamsburg, tells the tale of Colonial Williamsburg’s new mascot Liberty. For a refreshing, light read click here. The event featured in the article has passed but the important information is still included.

Liberty is tied to a fun historical story in which it is suspected that Liberty’s ancestor, Buzzy, a Briard which is French in origin, was brought to the states by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson is said to have intended to give George Washington a pair of Briard pups as a gift, though it is uncertain if he was able to carry out this plan.

Duke of Gloucester Street, commonly known as “DoG Street” is also referred to as “America’s Main Street”. It is respected as very dog-friendly so it is only fitting that Colonial Williamsburg’s own DoG Street have it’s own mascot! We welcome Liberty to town and look forward to posting fun Dog photos of our own on DoG Street and with any luck, we’ll snap a photo with Liberty!
