On March 15th at 7 AM runners will line up to run in the first full marathon on the Peninsula. Starting at Newport News Park runners will run 26.2 miles throughout the large and diverse city of Newport News to finish downtown at the victory arch. Along with the marathon there will also be a marathon relay, Maritime 8K, and a nautical mile for kids. The whole idea behind the marathon is to unite the city of Newport News and celebrate all the great things going on in the city.
Newport News is a very long and linear city with many different neighborhoods that do not always connect and unite. The purpose of the marathon is to change that by unifying the city and also promote healthy living. The marathon will have a total of 6 wave stations where people can gather to cheer on the runners. If you are not running in the race and you plan to spectate, drive around and take a look at some of these houses Abbitt Realty has to offer along the route of the marathon.

One of the many benefits of the marathon and the other races is the money it will bring to not only local businesses but more importantly local charities. The One City Marathon’s official charities are: The Newport News Mayor’s Book Club, Soundscapes, and The Virginia Peninsula Food Bank.
