Remember those who served
By: George Zigler
People who have served in our Armed Forces are honored annually on November 11. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice to end World War 1 in 1918. In November of the next year, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th to be Armistice Day when he said:
“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”
In 1926 Congress decided to officially make Armistice Day a national holiday. After World War II: the greatest mobilization of American Military of the nation’s history, and the hard fought aggression in Korea, the name of the holiday was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is a day to honor veterans and thank them for the sacrifices they have made to keep America free. As we remember our Veterans, let us not forget the sacrifices made by their families and those who care for them. Go out of your way to thank veterans not only today but every day, we will never be able to repay them for all that they have done for us. Were it not for the sacrifices they have made you and I would not be here today enjoying the freedoms protected by the amazing United States Military. Listed below are the names of Abbitt Realty real estate agents and brokers who have bravely served in the military to protect our rights and freedoms both in Hampton Roads and beyond. We would like to thank them and all veterans who have continually kept America safe and free.
